Munich started with enormous momentum in the first Bavarian final in DEL history and took the lead from the second minute on, as Parkes hammered the puck into the net after Filip Varejcka had done the groundwork. Kevin Reich in the Ingolstadt goal was also under constant fire after that, before three penalties slowed down the Red Bulls. Munich's shorthanded units shone, so it remained 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Ingolstadt better in the game after the change of sides. Tye McGinn (27th) missed the equalizer for the guests on a counterattack, a little later the Red Bulls celebrated Tiffels' 50th DEL goal to make it 2-0 (28th). The Panthers then had good opportunities, but Mathias Niederberger and the crossbar (37th) prevented the connection.
Ingolstadt took the momentum into the final period and reduced the deficit through Wojciech Stachowiak (43rd). The Panther's pressure continued, but Niederberger was the last stop. The keeper was there when needed and secured the Red Bulls a narrow 2-1 victory with his saves.
