// DEL - HIGHLIGHTS
Gameplay
Munich was outshot for the first time after just a few seconds and the bell rang: Tiffels deflected for the lead (1.). Only a few moments later Ehliz added the 2:0 (2.) and made the dream start of the Red Bulls perfect. Even the third goal was possible, but Grizzlies keeper Dustin Strahlmeier saved against Ben Street (4.). The wake-up call for Wolfsburg. The Lower Saxons stepped up and struck back: Jordan Murray (6th) and Darren Archibald (12th) ensured that the entertaining first period ended 2:2.
Offensive field hockey also after the change of ends. It became dangerous in front of both goals - as in the 25th minute: Redmond slammed the puck over the Wolfsburg box, in return Tyler Morley failed to beat Mathias Niederberger. Shortly after, the Munich keeper had no chance: Spencer Machacek and Dustin Jeffrey scored twice to make it 4:2 (26th). The Lower Saxons were then more compelling and with the 5:2 by Laurin Braun (37.). Niederberger was then replaced by Danny aus den Birken. He did not have to intervene in the middle period, but Kastner reduced the score in the power play (40.).
The Red Bulls were initially under pressure in the final period, as Wolfsburg played in overtime for a longer period. Aus den Birken moved into focus and kept his team in the game. His teammates tried everything, but the score did not change until the final period. In the 57th minute, coach Don Jackson brought in the extra outfield player for the first time - and the risk paid off: Ortega reduced the score to 4:5 (58.). Shortly afterwards, Aus den Birken was sent off again and the top team struck again: Redmond's goal brought the game to overtime (59th).
In the overtime, the Red Bulls were closer to the winning goal, but Wolfsburg saved themselves for the penalty shootout. Only one of them scored: Szuber secured the extra point for the Red Bulls - and crowned their strong comeback.
