Course of play
Both teams started the match with immense speed and top chances: The Finns were helped by the post and a referee's decision in Jonathon Blum's supposed 1:0 (9th). For Munich, goalie Mathias Niederberger reacted brilliantly in one-on-one situations, including in minute two. The first goal was then scored by the guests. After winning the disc, things went quickly and Kim Nieminen scored to give Lukko the lead (13). And it lasted until the siren.
The second 20 minutes were as intense as the first. The Red Bulls played a tad more offensively than their opponents, Rauma switched at lightning speed - and successfully: Ponthus Westerholm increased the lead to 2:0 (27th). In the following period, the Finns defended with concentration and a strong fight. But Munich fought, took over more and more of the game and McKiernan scored the equalizer (39.). With the intermediate score of 1:2, the players went into the second period break.
In the final period, Red Bull München pushed vehemently for the equalizer. Lukko was exclusively occupied with defensive work, but had the best chance with a break in a shorthanded period. Niederberger made a great save (51.). Six minutes later, the Red Bulls goalkeeper had no chance in his own shorthanded game. Ponthus Westerholm made it 3:1 for Rauma with his second goal (57th) and added the 4:1 into the empty Munich goal just 90 seconds before the end.
