Course of the game
The Red Bulls were challenged defensively at first. The ERC played straight forward and had the first goals - including a solo effort by Jan Nijenhuis. Mathias Niederberger made a brilliant save (3rd). His counterpart Michael Garteig took center stage in the twelfth minute. Munich pressed for the lead in overtime, but the crossbar prevented the first goal by Ben Street (14.). A little later, Garteig was able to distinguish himself against Austin Ortega (17.). So it went into the first period break with 0:0.
Ingolstadt came out of the dressing room better, but the post and a strong Niederberger stood in the way of the ERC lead. In the 35th minute, the national goalkeeper was then without a chance, because Patrik Virta dusted a puck in front of the goal unstoppable. Just under two minutes later, the next cross-ice pass in front of the Munich goal. This time Charles Bertrand converted (37.). Because Kastner just missed the goal on the opposite side (40th), Ingolstadt's two-goal lead held until the break.
At the beginning of the third period, ERC defenseman Kevin Maginot first despaired of Niederberger (42nd) and then of the crossbar (46th). The Red Bulls stayed in the game. Chris DeSousa initiated a good phase of the guests with his individual action (48th). The final goal was possible, but it was not to come. Thus, the Munich team had to admit defeat for the first time after three wins in a row.
