General
The history of our club goes back to 1998. On January 19, a freezing cold Monday, seven ice hockey enthusiasts from Munich met in the kitchen of a house in the Lerchenau district. It was the birth of what was then HC München 98. Five promotions, the move to the venerable Olympia Ice Stadium and the renaming to EHC München followed within a short space of time. It was an eventful time, with the next highlight coming in 2010. The club was promoted to the PENNY DEL, making the leap from the lowest to the highest German league in just twelve years. By qualifying for the first play-off round, the team from the Bavarian capital even became the most successful promoted team to date.
Red Bull became the sole shareholder on May 1, 2013. Since then, the club has operated under the name EHC Red Bull München. The 2015/16 season heralded the most successful era in the club's eventful history to date: coach Don Jackson's team celebrated its first German championship on April 22, 2016 against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg. The following year, the Red Bulls succeeded in defending their title in another duel with the Lower Saxons. Munich also made it to the final in the 2017/18 season, this time against Eisbären Berlin. The hard-fought series reached its climax at the Olympia-Eisstadion. In front of a home crowd, Munich decided the all-important game of the best-of-seven series in its favor and thus lifted the trophy for the third time in a row. In 2019, the Red Bulls became the first and so far only German team to reach the Champions League final. In the final on February 5, however, Don Jackson's team was beaten 3:1 by Swedish representative Frölunda HC from Gothenburg. The fourth German championship then followed in the 2022/23 season. The Red Bulls beat ERC Ingolstadt 4:1 in the final series and decided the title with a 3:1 victory in game five on April 23, 2023. Munich have played their home games at the SAP Garden since the 2024/25 season.
