Looking back: Around ten years ago, on December 18, 2014 to be precise, "Kasti" made his first brief appearance for Munich in an away game against the Hamburg Freezers as a licensed player for our former cooperation partner SC Riessersee. In the following 2015/16 season, the now 31-year-old joined EHC Red Bull Munich on a permanent basis.
Kastner on his way to becoming the Red Bulls' record player
In 499 DEL games to date, our forward has contributed 229 scoring points (91 goals / 138 assists). If he stays healthy, he will soon replace Daryl Boyle (514 games) as Munich's record player in the German Ice Hockey League. But the attacker has already broken a special mark. Because so many appearances for just one club is not an everyday occurrence.
"Of course you always want that. Especially when you see the success we've had and the direction we've taken. And I'm all the more proud of that," says the jubilarian. And he has every reason to be. After all, "Kasti" has been part of all four Red Bulls' championship titles to date and was named Finals MVP in 2023. "Munich is the perfect location for me. I'm close to home and feel at home here. There's no other club for me," said the perennial favorite, who will be looking to record his third win in a row with the Red Bulls at home against the Schwenninger Wild Wings on Tuesday evening.
Butcher starts training
Whether new signing Will Butcher will make his debut in a Munich jersey will be decided at short notice. The former NHL defenseman trained with the team for the first time on Monday.
Our guests from Schwenningen haven't really got going yet this season, with wins and defeats alternating for the team in eleventh place in the table. On Sunday, the Wild Wings lost 4:3 on penalties at home to Straubing, but in their last away game they won 7:3 in Nuremberg.
