Course of the game
The Red Bulls started with a lot of pressure and Markus Keller in the visitors' goal became the center of attention. The goalkeeper made a strong save against Adam Brooks (2nd), but in the sixth minute he had no chance. Weber finished off Maximilian Daubner's preparatory work to make it 1:0 after a remarkable move. Augsburg then waited for counter-attacking opportunities, but failed to create any notable chances in the first period. At the other end, Munich failed to add a second goal before the first period break.
Panther forward Anrei Hakulinen provided the first highlight in the middle period, converting a solo effort to make it 1:1 (21'). The game continued with a wild exchange of blows, in which the Red Bulls went ahead again - and did so with a double strike: First Hirose deflected to make it 2:1 (30'), before Krämmer increased the lead to 3:1 with his backhand just 43 seconds later (31'). Shortly afterwards, Augsburg pressed for the second goal in double overtime. A few moments after the first penalty had expired, Cody Kunyk scored the equalizer (35). Because Keller prevented Hirose's second goal of the evening at the other end (35'), Munich went into the second break with a narrow 3:2 lead.
After an even start to the final period, the Panthers increased their risk. This resulted in chances that were thwarted by Mathias Niederberger in the Munich goal. However, the Red Bulls did not limit themselves to defending. Veit Oswald had the best chance for the four-time German champions - but the post stood in the way of a fourth goal (53'). The tension was then high in the final phase. Augsburg took the goalkeeper off the ice for the first time in the penultimate minute. With six players on the ice, the visitors pressed for the equalizer, but the Munich defence around the strong Niederberger managed to hold on to the narrow lead.

Emil Johansson: "We did a good job. There will be more close games like today in which we have to hold on to a lead. If we stick to our structure for 60 minutes, we'll be hard to beat."
