Our boys still have fond memories of the lakeside town, especially from last season. Both teams won two games each in the main round before they met in the playoff quarterfinals. Bremerhaven was already leading 2-0 in an intense series before the Red Bulls turned up the heat and ultimately prevailed 4-2.

Focus on the "Karawanken Express"

"Bremerhaven always fights very hard, plus the Penguins have a good power play," Konrad Abeltshauser knows. "That's where we have to look to stay out of the penalty box."

Partly responsible for the strong overtime game has been the "Karawanken Express" for years. The three Slovenians Jan Urbas, Ziga Jeglic and Miha Verlic form one of the most dangerous forward trios in the league. "They are as important to us as bread and butter in daily life. The 'Karawanken Express' has become a part of our identity," team manager Alfred Prey is quoted as saying on the club website. And in the current round, the trio has already collected six scorer points again.

Appendino from the Isar to the North Sea

After three years in the Red Bull Munich squad, it was off to Bremerhaven for Nicolas Appendino in the summer. The 24-year-old defender has earned a regular spot so far and already delivered two assists in his first three appearances for his new club.

"It's always nice when you meet old player colleagues. But you still don't get anything for free. After the game, we can enjoy laughing together.
