Match
The Red Bulls were always dangerous when they could quickly switch over. Brooks turned one of these attacks into the Munich lead after work by Andreas Eder (5.). Will Riedell almost added the second goal after a counterattack (10.). Shortly thereafter, Ingolstadt changed goalkeepers: Erik Eder came into the game for Devin Williams. The DEL debutant initially had little to do, as Ingolstadt became more dominant and created chances to equalize. Evan Fitzpatrick in the Munich goal stopped Austen Keating's breakaway (19.), among other things, and so the visitors went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The crossbar prevented Munich from getting off to a dream start in the second period after Brooks' shot (22.). Ingolstadt then created a better impression, with Wojciech Stachowiak going closest to equalizing (29.), only to be denied by Fitzpatrick. At the other end, ERC goalkeeper Eder made a fine save to keep out Maximilian Daubner (31.). The attentive defensive formations did not allow any further high-quality chances. Munich took the 1-0 lead into the second break.
The Red Bulls defended consistently in the final period, and Ingolstadt had few chances to begin with. Nevertheless, the league leaders turned the game around: Wayne Simpson scored the equalizer in a power play (50.), before Riley Sheen made the Panther double perfect (54.). The game picked up pace again as the Red Bulls went back on the attack – and were rewarded: Ehliz scored the 2:2 in the subsequent push (58.). With the game seemingly heading for overtime, Ingolstadt struck: Fabio Wagner scored 40 seconds before the final buzzer to make it 3:2 to the winners of the regular season. A few seconds later, Keating made it 4:2 with an empty-net goal.
