Course of the game
The Red Bulls started with a lot of pressure and established themselves in the offensive zone right from the start. Leon Hungerecker in the goal of the Ice Tigers had a lot to do, but was not to be beaten at first. The guests lurked on the counterattack - as in the ninth minute. Daniel Schmölz suddenly appeared free in front of Mathias Niederberger, but just missed. The duel was balanced with chances on both sides, but no goal was scored before the first intermission.
After the change of ends, Munich was quicker to get up to temperature, but still lacked precision in the finish. That changed in the 31st minute: Ortega gave the Red Bulls the lead with an overhead shot. Nuremberg came back, however, and turned the derby on its head within a minute: Charlie Gerard (38th) and Cole Maier (39th) turned the game around with their goals. The Red Bulls had the last word in the middle period: Because Kastner scored only twelve seconds later on the other side (40.), it went into the second break with 2:2.
The first action in the final period also belonged to the German champions - and again it rang: Bittner celebrated his goal debut in the Munich jersey after a hammer from the blue line (42.). Street even added the 4:2 in overtime (45.). Because the Red Bulls' shorthanded units were again strong, the two-goal lead held until the final period. Then it got turbulent again: First, Oswald increased the lead to 5:2 (55th), before the Ice Tigers reduced it through Jakob Ustorf (56th). A few minutes later, the Red Bulls celebrated their third DEL victory in a row in their anniversary home game.
