Course of the game
Munich put on the pressure right from the start in overtime, but failed to score. The special teams continued to dominate the game. Coach Toni Söderholm's team survived three shorthanded situations in the first period. The Red Bulls had their best chances at five-on-five through Jonathon Blum (9th) and Veit Oswald (16th) - but Penguins goalie Maximilian Franzreb was on the spot. Daniel Allavena also made a flawless stop in the first period. And so an intense 20 minutes ended without a goal.
A similar picture in the middle period, because initially the special teams of both teams were in focus. There were no goals. That changed in the 30th minute when Eisenschmid surprised Franzreb with a shot from the right face-off circle - his first goal in a Red Bulls jersey. Munich then with a little more space and shortly before the siren with the second goal by Krämmer, who increased by his energetic follow-up in the goal area to 2:0 (40.).
Bremerhaven had to come and reported back through Nino Kinder (44th). However, the Red Bulls were not impressed by the goal. In the 51st minute, another newcomer celebrated his goal debut: defender Almquist beat Kristers Gudlevskis, who came into the game shortly before the end of the second period for the injured Franzreb. Afterwards, the German champions controlled the duel - and yet it became exciting once again. Bremerhaven brought on the sixth outfielder and scored again through Ziga Jeglic (58th). Shortly afterwards, Hager (59th) and McKiernan (60th) ensured the final decision with their empty-net goals.
