Born in Ebersberg, he initially joined the four-time German champions as assistant coach this summer and took over as interim coach in mid-October from former coach Toni Söderholm, who was let go after the defeat against bottom-placed Düsseldorf.
Winkler convinced: "Will be successful with this constellation"
"We deliberately took our time with this decision until the German Cup break," says Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey. "The positive development of the last few weeks, especially within the team, has shown us that Max and the coaching team around Pierre Allard and Patrick Dallaire are the right people for the current situation. We are convinced that we will be successful with this constellation," continued the 53-year-old.
Kaltenhauser took over the Eisbären Regensburg in the Oberliga four and a half years ago after ending his active playing career. He led the team to the second-highest German league and transformed it from a relegation candidate to a title contender in just two years. In April of this year, the sports science graduate won the DEL2 championship with his team in the final against the Kassel Huskies, and in June the DEL2 coach of the year 2024 moved to the Munich DEL club as assistant coach. After an interim phase of just under four weeks, Kaltenhauser is now officially responsible for the sporting fortunes of EHC Red Bull Munich as head coach.
Kaltenhauser: „I will do everything to achieve our goals"
"Of course, I feel very honored to take on this position," explains the 43-year-old family man. "Above all because the players and those responsible have now seen how I work over a certain period of time and then made this choice. That was also an important factor in my decision. At the same time, I will keep my feet on the ground and do everything I can to achieve our sporting goals," Kaltenhauser continues.
