The 20-year-old forward will be scoring goals for the newly founded NHL franchise from Utah in the coming season.

Lutz joined the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy at the age of twelve. His performances in the Red Bulls' youth teams, the German national U-teams and the Munich professional team brought him into the focus of the best ice hockey league in the world.

In the summer of 2022, the attacker was then drafted 43rd overall by the NHL team Arizona Coyotes. Last season, he played for the Green Bay Gamblers in the UCHL. Lutz played 56 games in the USA's most important junior league, in which he scored a strong 26 goals and 46 assists.

The 20-year-old has now signed his first professional contract in the NHL. The new "Utah NHL Team" will take over the license of the Arizona Coyotes for the coming season. According to owner Ryan Smith, the newly founded team from Salt Lake City still wants to take its time with an official club name, logos and club colors. One thing is certain: Lutz will be part of the team. He will complete his preparation in the summer in the familiar surroundings of the Red Bull youth academy. The entire Red Bulls organization says: "Congratulations and good luck, Julian!"

The next ex-Munich player in the NHL

Lutz will be the next Red Bulls homegrown player to sign a contract in the NHL next season. In the current season, defenseman Maksymilian Szuber played his first NHL game for the Arizona Coyotes. Despite being only 22 years old, Munich-born JJ Peterka can already look back on 161 NHL games for the Buffalo Sabres, who will play the opening game of the SAP Garden in Munich on September 27.
