Déjà vu & good omen: the series preview for the quarter finals// DEL - PREVIEWThe beard is sprouting, the intensity is rising, it's playoff time! On Wednesday (19:30 | LIVE in our blog) it finally starts with the first game in the quarterfinal series against the Pinguins Bremerhaven.
From Upper Bavaria to the North Sea coast! Exactly 634 kilometers as the crow flies lie between Munich's Olympic Ice Stadium and the Eisarena Bremerhaven. Our boys will be spared the travel hassle for the time being, because the opener of the best-of-seven series will take place at Oberwiesenfeld. Get your tickets now!
Short and sweet
In the final table of the main round, the two teams were separated by seven places, but that wasn't always the case. For a while, Thomas Popiesch's team even replaced us at the top, but in the course of time, the Fischtowners got a little out of step.

Seven losses in the last ten main round games meant that the North Germans even slipped down to eighth place and thus into the 1st playoff round. But then they made short work of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. Two matches, two wins. Bremerhaven thus ended the illustrious career of Nuremberg captain Patrick Reimer and punched the last ticket for the quarterfinals.
Bremerhaven a good omen?
For the third time in the past six years, one of the quarterfinal pairings is Munich versus Bremerhaven. The Red Bulls have so far won twice against the Penguins on their way to the championship title. In 2017 by sweep, the following year Don Jackson's team won four games in a row after an opening defeat.

The main round record of the 2022/23 season, on the other hand, is even: Both teams have won once each at home and away. "We're warned, of course," says Patrick Hager, "but we're also as well prepared as possible. The main round gave us enormous self-confidence, and we want to bring that to the ice in the playoffs."
Promising statistics
In the past, that has often worked out. The Red Bulls have won 13 of their 19 playoff series played so far, for a 68 percent success rate. No other participant in the 2023 playoffs has a higher figure. The Adler Mannheim (65 percent) and the Grizzlies Wolfsburg (59) follow close behind.
Bremerhaven comes in at 38 percent with three series won and five series lost. However, the North Germans have never made it past the quarterfinals. Our boys are different: quarter-finals twice, finals twice, champions three times. That's the record since Don Jackson took over the reins in Munich. This year, the fourth title is to follow.

The endless hunger for titles
"As a young player, you naturally dream of a championship, but of course you have no idea how awesome it feels in reality. Then, once you've experienced that moment, the urge becomes that much greater. You want to experience it over and over again," Hager reveals. "It's time we finally rewarded ourselves. For what we have achieved this year and in the years before!" The #Mission4Minga begins.
