An almost perfect season
HC Dynamo Pardubice has won the Czech championship six times to date, most recently in 2012. Last season, the club narrowly missed out on another title win. After a dominant main round - Pardubice went into the playoffs as the clear leader in the table - coach Marek Zadina's team only lost to serial champions Oceláři Třinec in the final. The decisive game seven was lost 2:1 after overtime in their own arena.
Eastern European school with NHL experience
In their next attempt at a major coup, the Champions League participants are continuing to rely on mostly home-grown players. In the summer, defenseman Andrej Šustr (2.03 meters, 408 NHL games), a familiar face from the PENNY DEL, moved from the Cologne Sharks to Pardubice. At forward, Jiri Smejkal (most recently Belleville Senators) brings additional NHL experience, while Roman Cervenka (Rapperswil-Jona Lakers), a big name in Czech ice hockey, also joins the team. The veteran once again led his home country onto the ice as captain at the last World Championship.
Cervenka made his debut in the Pardubice jersey in the last test game in a 3-2 win against VLCI Zilina, before which the Red & Whites won 5-3 against their own B team to open the season.
