Top teams from three nations: These are our opponents at the Red Bulls Salute// NEWSIn 2024, the Red Bulls Salute in Zell am See-Kaprun will once again bring together the European top class. Our team will start against last year's Swedish champions Växjö Lakers. The second opponent will be EC Red Bull Salzburg or ZSC Lions.
We take a closer look at the three participants - starting with the Växjö Lakers. Four championship titles since their promotion in 2011 make the Lakers the most successful Swedish club in recent history. Växjö last won the SHL title in 2023 - last season they even reached the play-off semi-finals. Our new signing Tobias Rieder was there both times.
Rieder warns against former club Växjö: ‘One of the top teams in Europe’
He is therefore the perfect insider for the club from southern Sweden and knows: ‘They are very good on the disc, very strong in terms of running and very structured. They also have a super experienced former player in Jörgen Jönsson as their coach.’ Jönsson's squad includes several former NHL players - including the offensively strong defenceman and captain Joel Persson. Perhaps the Lakers' greatest strength, however, is the quality of their depth.
‘Jönsson consistently plays with four lines. That's also possible because the young players are highly trained,’ says Rieder. Added to this are strong imports such as Finnish international goalkeeper Emil Larmi. This mixture is what makes the Lakers so successful. For Rieder, they are ‘one of the top teams in Europe’. The Swedes want to prove this on their debut at the Red Bulls Salute.

Goalkeeper Simon Hrubec is also a guarantee of success. The Czech shines with outstanding statistics and is therefore the great back-up. The ZSC Lions were already in Zell am See-Kaprun last year. They were initially beaten by our team (1:3) before beating Salzburg in the small final for third place (1:0).
EC Red Bull Salzburg: The serial champions from the city of Mozart
This year's ‘semi-final’ will see a rematch with EC Red Bull Salzburg. The team from the city of Mozart became Austrian champions for the eleventh time a few months ago. It was the third title in a row for coach Oliver David's team. He relies on a well-coordinated team with individual talents such as forwards Thomas Raffl and Peter Schneider as well as 175-time NHL defenceman Ryan Murphy.

Finland's Atte Tolvanen and Austria's national keeper David Kickert are two experienced goalkeepers. In recent years, the Salzburgers have proven time and again what they are capable of. However, they are still without a title at the international invitational tournament since the Red Bulls Salute was reintroduced in 2017.
