Last spring, Söderholm returned as coach to his old place of work, where he had won the DEL title as a player in the 2015/16 season. Previously, the Finn coached the German national ice hockey team and 16-time Swiss champions SC Bern, among others.
Following Söderholm's release, former assistant coach Max Kaltenhauser will take over as interim coach, assisted by Pierre Allard and Patrick Dallaire as assistant coaches. Kaltenhauser joined the Red Bulls' coaching team this summer; last season, the 43-year-old family man won the DEL2 championship with the Eisbären Regensburg.
Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey: "For us as an organization, this was undoubtedly one of the most difficult decisions ever. After the performances shown by what we thought was a top team in preparation and in the course of the season so far, we didn't make the changes that we felt were necessary after last season. We are very grateful to Toni for his work and wish him all the best for the future."
The team travels to Bremerhaven on Saturday, where it will face last year's DEL finalists Pinguins Bremerhaven on Sunday (October 13 | 2 pm).
