8.1 million euros for a good cause! How the Wings for Life World Run 2024 went Abeltshauser with a strong performance // NEWSRunning for those who can't run - that's the idea behind the Wings for Life World Run. This year, 265,818 people laced up their running shoes and raised 8.1 million euros for spinal cord research. A record!
Once again, Munich's Olympic Park was the starting point for one of the seven flagship runs. In perfect running weather, the participants set off on Sunday at 1 p.m. local time not far from the Olympic Ice Stadium and SAP Gardens to do some good. At the same time, more than a quarter of a million people around the world set off with the same goal.
In addition to the flagship runs, there was once again the opportunity to have your run tracked via an app. This meant that running enthusiasts could take part from anywhere. As always, 100% of the entry fees and donations went towards spinal cord research to find a cure for paraplegia. Almost 52 million euros have already been raised since 2014.
The best of the best
As last year, the winner came from Japan. Tomoya Watanabe covered 70 kilometers in Fukuoka before he was collected by the catcher car. No one else was on the road for so long. In the women's race, Dominika Stelmach from Poland came out on top with a 55-kilometer run. The German best performances were delivered by Max Rahm (65 km) and Ingalena Schömburg-Heuck (51 km) in Munich.

Abeltshauser stands out - Red Bulls and Friends with record numbers
The Red Bulls were also represented once again. Together as the "Red Bulls & Friends" team, we were able to run a total of 9,378.64 kilometers (almost 1,000 km more than last year). With a donation amount of 87,875.63 euros, we are the group with the highest donation amount worldwide for the second time in a row.
Prominent runner in the team: Konrad Abeltshauser. At 1.96 meters tall and 107 kilograms, our number 16 does not have the classic runner's physique - but our defender still cut a fine figure.
In his sixth participation, "Koni" covered an impressive 21.4 kilometers - and that with a baby trailer. He finished in 16,252nd place worldwide, which is impressive. However, the ranking was of secondary importance. Because once again, the winners were not only all the participants, but especially those for whom they were running.
