Red Bulls back on the ice: How the first team training session went at SAP GardenKastner: "A great first training session" // NEWSEHC Red Bull München's first team ice training session took place on Monday. Coach Toni Söderholm made his players sweat - and made full use of the facilities in the new SAP Garden.
Almost four months after their last game, our team returned to the ice together on Monday. "We could hardly wait to finally get going again. The anticipation was huge," said Yasin Ehliz after the strenuous opening session. And his team-mate Maximilian Kastner admitted: "I missed the boys a bit. It's nice to work together again and form a new team."
All new additions and a guest player on the ice
In addition to returnee Andreas Eder, this new team also includes goalkeeper Simon Wolf and NHL-experienced forwards Adam Brooks and Tobias Rieder. "Of course you take a closer look," said Kastner, who added with satisfaction: "The newcomers have made a very good impression."
Our number 93 himself played alongside a familiar face in many of the drills: JJ Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres NHL team joined in as a guest player and showed his old colleagues that he hasn't forgotten a thing. On September 27, our boys will then duel with Peterka's Buffalo Sabres at the Grand Opening of SAP Gardens.

Here we go again! The first ice training in the SAP Garden in pictures
Söderholm sets the tone in perfect conditions
For coach Söderholm, the first team training session was all about setting the tone. The Finn challenged his players with running, passing and shooting drills as well as an intensive three-on-three match. "The first training sessions are about getting back in and feeling comfortable. Everything has to become supple - including the equipment," says Kastner.
The players were delighted with their new home. In addition to the main rink, there are three additional ice rinks in the SAP Garden, which will not only benefit amateur sport in future, but also offer the professionals a new level of comfort. "We started in Hall 2 and did warm-up exercises there. When the ice was worn out, we moved one door further. In hall 1, we worked with the disk on fresh ice. That was really cool," said Ehliz.
The creation of SAP Gardens in fast-forward
Just under two weeks until the first game
Kastner also raved about the quality of the ice: "It's very hard and exceptionally smooth. Perfect!" His summary of the opening session was positive across the board: "It was a great first training session." Over the next two weeks or so, the Red Bulls will work on their form before putting on their new jerseys for the first time this season. Then the Red Bulls Salute in Zell am See-Kaprun (August 16/17) is on the agenda. Tickets for the international invitational tournament are available here.
