Monday, 11. September 2023 | EHC Red Bull München with Jonathon Blum successful in CHL
Jonathon Blum as a symbol of our royal class startTop scorer, third place, highest win in our CHL history// CHL - NEWSFor the Red Bulls, the competitive season started with four games in the Champions League, two of them against national champions. The start went according to plan: the ten points so far make us the best German team - and we also have the CHL top scorer.
When the final siren sounded on Sunday, the jubilation in the Olympia-Eisstadion was great. Standing ovations for coach Toni Söderholm's team, which set a new club record against HC Innsbruck. The 9:2 victory against the Sharks from Austria is the highest win in our history in the top division so far.
A more than round finish for a strong CHL start in the past two weeks. After we had to admit defeat in the opening game against Vitkovice Ridera with 3:4 after penalty shootout, three victories followed after regular playing time. With ten out of twelve possible points, we are enthroned on the third place of the table and are the best representative from the PENNY DEL. The Red Bulls have not yet clinched a place in the knockout phase, but it is almost impossible to take them out of it.

Blum currently top scorer in the Champions League
One of the many faces of success so far is Jonathon Blum. Our defender already has nine scorer points after four games. The playmaking defender has set up eight goals so far and also got to add his own name to the list of scorers in the 5-2 win over Slovakian champions HC Kosice.
"It was an important win here in front of our fans," said the match-winner after the third game in the CHL and analyzed: "We knew it would be a difficult task. But we started exactly as we imagined."
After his assists six, seven, eight and nine against Innsbruck on Sunday, the US American not only wears the jersey of the top scorer for us, but is also the most successful player in the entire top division. He is followed by Pelicans forward Ryan Lasch, Tampere's Simon Stransky - and Austin Ortega with seven points each.

Red Bulls shine offensively and defensively
Our number eight striker is the second-best scorer in the top flight with four goals. We've already scored 19 goals on the international stage this season, which makes EHC Red Bull Munich's offense the third best in the competition. Defensively, too, Söderholm's team has made a commanding impression so far. With few exceptions, our defense has always stood firm - goalie Mathias Niederberger even celebrated his first CHL shutout in the 2-0 win over Czech champions Ocelari Trinec. "I'm already in pretty good shape. I had time to reflect on a lot of things during the break. It's nice to know that you can still develop," said our number 35, who was already in top form in the first three games.

Against Innsbruck Niederberger got a break and was replaced by Daniel Allavena. The 23-year-old proved to be a reliable substitute and shone with strong saves himself. During the game, there were "Allavena" chants for the young goalie.
CHL finale against other top teams
Although we have already beaten two national champions in Trinec and Kosice, the remaining program will not be any easier. On October 10 (7:30 p.m.), we welcome Finnish top club Lukko Rauma to the Olympia-Eisstadion. The away game at Swedish top team Färjestad BK on October 17 (19:00) will conclude our CHL preliminary round.
