Mentor with sound advice
At Olympia-Eisstadion, Foster, wearing a Coyotes tracksuit, worked with Maksy for a week in special workouts. "They were well-balanced sessions and they were a lot of fun," Szuber said. The tone on the Munich ice was relaxed, but directional. Szuber perceives the ex-star as a mentor. A mentor with first-hand NHL and DEL tips. Szuber now wants to stick with it, heed Foster's advice and continue to give his best for the Red Bulls. That automatically opens doors for him: "The Coyotes want Julian and me to make it to the NHL. And we want that as well."
Foster and Ehliz - players with a shared past
Where our two youngsters want to go, Foster has skated over 400 times for teams like the Minnesota Wild or Edmonton Oilers. The end of his playing career took him to Germany, where he won the championship with Mannheim in 2015. He then spent his last professional year in Nuremberg, where Foster shared the ice with our current forward Yasin Ehliz.
"I remember how much energy Yasin always went into the games with and did all the hard work. Now when I saw him live again, I could tell: He hasn't changed, he's still one of the hardest workers on the ice," Foster reports about his former teammate.
In the meantime, Foster has returned to North America with many positive impressions. And of course continues to be in contact with Szuber and Lutz there.
