Direct duel of record players: Red Bulls visit Schwenningen
Saturday, 11. January 2025 | DEL Preview: EHC Red Bull München visits Schwenninger Wild Wings
Direct duel of record players: Red Bulls visit Schwenningen// DEL - PREVIEWAfter a narrow 2-1 defeat on penalties against Bremerhaven, EHC Red Bull München travel to the Black Forest. The Schwenninger Wild Wings await there on Sunday at 16:30 (live on MagentaSport, on our blog & Sportdeutschland.TV).
This game will be preceded by a clash between two Munich club legends. Maxi Kastner will face Daryl Boyle, who has been defending for Schwenningen since the summer of 2023 following his move from the Bavarian capital.
Kastner replaces Boyle
Kastner was only honored on Friday at home against the Pinguins Bremerhaven for his 514th DEL appearance for EHC Red Bull München. Our number 93 thus drew level with Boyle.
On Sunday, Kastner will go head-to-head to become the club's sole record player, replacing the former Munich defender. Incidentally, the two played the majority of their games for the Red Bulls together. The duo have been in the same team for eight years since 2015. Highlight: four championships together. Great successes that bond forever.
Bild Kasti
Ehliz in the 750 club
Yasin Ehliz is also set to play his next special game. The forward, who is currently Munich's sole top scorer in the PENNY DEL with 275 points since January 3, will play his 750th game in the German ice hockey top flight in Schwenningen.
Ehliz collected two of his points in the first meeting with the Wild Wings this season on the Neckar, even though the Black Forest team managed to win 4:3 on penalties after a late comeback on October 25. In the second encounter four weeks later, however, our boys kept the three points at the SAP Garden with a 4:2 win.
Schwenningen's home strength is back
Our opponents lost 3:4 after a penalty shoot-out at Löwen Frankfurt on Friday. Head coach Steve Walker, also a familiar face in Munich, is nevertheless back in the race for the first play-off round with his team.

// DEL - HIGHLIGHTS
The main reason for this is once again the home strength. While things did not go as planned in the Helios Arena at the start of the season, this should change from mid-October. In other words: Schwenningen have scored in eleven of their last twelve games at home and currently have five wins in a row.
Wild Wings strong at home at the end
The Wild Wings are on fire at home, especially in the third period, as 25 goals scored in the final 20 minutes is a league-best. It's not for nothing that the team from Neckarstadt pulls away late in many close games on the smallest ice surface in the PENNY DEL. Either Zach Senyshyn or Tyson Spink often have a hand in this. The two hitters already have 17 and 16 goals for the season.
New addition with plenty of NHL experience
The offensive department will now also be supported by Brett Ritchie, who moved from HK Nitra in Slovakia to Schwenningen a few days ago. The NHL-experienced winger (401 games in the best league in the world, 87 points) made his debut on Friday and will celebrate his home debut against us.
