If Munich win their next two games after the regular season, they would be guaranteed a place in the playoffs. It would be their eleventh appearance since their promotion to Germany's top division in 2010. Toni Söderholm's team have played 103 play-off games so far, of which the Red Bulls have won a whopping 65 (63 per cent). The team from the state capital scored a total of 321 times.
Best-of-seven mode from the quarter-finals onwards
The DEL main round ends on March 8 with the 52nd matchday. By then at the latest, it will be clear who will reach the play-offs and which teams will have to say goodbye for the summer break. For EHC Red Bull Munich, the final home game of the main round in the history of the venerable Olympia-Eisstadion is scheduled against the Augsburg Panthers (March 8 | 7:30 pm). The derby is already sold out.
The hottest phase of the season begins on March 10 with the first playoff round. The teams in positions 7 to 10 will battle it out in a best-of-three format for the last two places in the quarter-finals. The teams ranked 1 to 6 qualify directly for the last eight. From then on, all further rounds will be played in a best-of-seven format. This means that four wins are required in each series to reach the next round or win the championship.
MagentaSport will show all playoff matches live, while DF1 will broadcast selected matches on free-to-air TV.
