Course of the game
The Red Bulls got off to a dream start. Parkes scored in the second minute to give them the lead before Fischer completed the double with his first DEL goal just 34 seconds later. Ingolstadt coach Mark French called a timeout, but Munich continued to press. During an overtime situation (10th), the Panthers then also recorded their first dangerous shots. The duel was then evenly poised, but despite chances on both sides, no further goals were scored before the first period break.
A breathtaking middle period followed. The Red Bulls came out of the dressing room aggressively, but then Ingolstadt turned the game completely on its head within a few minutes: Wayne Simpson scored the equalizer (25') and Maurice Edwards added another in overtime (26'). The post prevented Munich's reply through Nico Krämmer (28). Simpson put the visitors ahead for the first time on the counter-attack - again with a powerplay goal (29). Kevin Maginot even made it 4:2 (30'). Both teams then had a number of top chances. Varejcka capitalized on one of them to make it 3:4 (34') - which was also the score after two periods.
Munich had a lot of possession in the final period, but Ingolstadt were now consistent in defense. The visitors were also able to continue to rely on their powerplay units. This time Leon Hüttl was successful (47'). Mathias Niederberger - who replaced Daniel Allavena between the posts in the 30th minute - was unable to prevent the 3:5. The Red Bulls tried everything again and increased the risk, but even with a sixth outfield player they were unable to score.
