Red Bulls want to say goodbye to 2023 with three points at DEG// DEL - PRELIMINARY REPORTEHC Red Bull Munich's 2023 ice hockey year comes to an end on Saturday, with coach Toni Söderholm's team facing Düsseldorf EG (16:30 | LIVE on MagentaSport and in our blog).
The Red Bulls go into the final matchday of the year in fifth place in the table (55 points) after their 3:2 win at the Grizzlys Wolfsburg. With a win in Düsseldorf, we could still move up to third place, provided the competition from Cologne (56) and Straubing (57) plays along.

"The table is tight. We want to climb even further and finish the year successfully in Düsseldorf," said Koni Abeltshauser after the thriller in Wolfsburg.
Confident Red Bulls
Our defender played a big part in Munich's away success with a goal and an assist. "The three points are good for our confidence. We can build on this performance," said Abeltshauser.
Our boys have won the last three encounters against Düsseldorf - including the two home victories this season (4:2 and 2:1).

Bitter defeats
The Rhinelanders cannot be satisfied with their season so far. After 32 match days, they are in penultimate place. Coach Thomas Dolak's team recently suffered two defeats against Augsburg (4:5) and in the derby in Cologne (1:3).
Particularly bitter: DEG let a 4:1 lead slip away after 54 minutes against AEV. However, the play-off places are still within reach, the gap to the tenth-placed Löwen Frankfurt is only five points.
O'Donnell makes an impressive comeback
Especially as Brendan O'Donnell has made an impressive return after two operations and months of rehab. The goal-scorer has come up trumps after his Achilles tendon rupture and has 14 goals after 14 appearances - the best points average of all Düsseldorf players.

Offensive slump despite strong individual talents
Kenny Agostino (27) leads the DEG's scoring list. Playmaker Phil Varone (25) can also make the difference. Nevertheless, the offense is the big problem child: 74 goals this season are the second weakest in the PENNY DEL and are only undercut by bottom-placed Iserlohn (66).
