Gudlevskis guarantees success
One of the reasons for this is Penguins goalkeeper Kristers Gudlevskis. The Latvian has come to the fore after the injury of his team-mate Maximilian Franzreb. His save percentage (92 percent) and goals-against average (1.9) are impressive.
Gudlevskis has only conceded two goals in the last three matchdays. Bremerhaven picked up nine points and climbed to the top of the table.
Coach Thomas Popiesch's team is performing at a very high level this season: the Penguins scored the fourth most goals and conceded the second fewest after Straubing. The special teams are also among the best in the German Ice Hockey League. The North Germans are at the top of many relevant statistics. This is another reason why they are heading for the most successful main season in the club's history.
Optimistic Red Bulls
The Red Bulls are aware of the difficulty of the task. "Bremerhaven is not first for nothing. But we are well prepared," says Varejcka.
