Gameplay
Cautious start on both sides - until the Haie snapped it shut in the fourth minute through Moritz Müller. The Munich team had to fight, found it difficult to get into the game. Cologne defended with concentration, countered dangerously and went up in the first power play: Louis-Marc Aubry scored to make it 0:2 at the break (18th).
The Red Bulls started the second period a bit more alert and attacking, but the Haie continued to hold out. A bumpy, wild match. Offensively, both teams managed little, defense was trump. In the 38th minute, Cologne's Nicholas Baptiste took advantage of an inattention in the Red Bulls' back line to slot in a goal for 0:3 (38th). This was the score going into the dressing room.
In the final period, Munich pressed, but continued to act too complicated and without fortune. Cologne stood firm, waited for mistakes and counterattacked with the confidence of a clear lead. Then a tricky situation with long video evidence and finally the goal for Munich: Hager reduced the score to 1:3 (55.). 3:23 minutes before the end, coach Don Jackson took the goalkeeper off the ice. Cologne wobbled, Redmond scored to make it 2:3 (59.). Munich fought for the equalizer. In vain: Aubry scored in the final minute for 2:4 into the orphaned Munich goal.
