Course of the game
Both teams started with an aggressive forecheck. An intense duel developed in which the defensive lines initially shone. Munich had the first high-caliber chance in the power play, but Jonas Stettmer was on hand to catch Parkes (7th). The Red Bulls then set the tone and created more chances, but it was the visitors who had the best opportunity: Frederik Tiffels hit the crossbar from a free position (18), meaning the teams went into the first break goalless.
In the middle period, both teams engaged in an open exchange of blows. The Polar Bears opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Manuel Wiederer. However, Munich were not impressed and created several chances. Parkes converted one of them to make it 1:1 (27'). Just two minutes later, Tiffels put Berlin back in front (29'), but the Red Bulls had the perfect answer again: Oswald finished off a spectacular solo run to make it 2:2 (34'). However, the visitors provided the final highlight in a thrilling third. Wiederer's second goal of the game (36') gave the Polar Bears a 3:2 lead after 40 minutes.
The game continued with the Red Bulls applying pressure and vehemently pushing for the equalizer - with success: Krämmer worked the puck over the line to make it 3:3 (43'). Söderholm's team were now close to taking the lead for the first time, but the Polar Bears remained ice-cold and went ahead for the fourth time through Tobias Eder (51'). A little later, Munich had a four-minute overtime spell. Eisenschmid unpacked the hammer and equalized the game again - 4:4 (55'). The Red Bulls wanted more, but ran into a counterattack: Wiederer scored while the Polar Bears were short-handed to make it 4:5 (57). Shortly before the end, Morgan Ellis sealed the game with a shot into an empty net (60').
