Course of the match
Tough duels, high speed and spectacular action - there was a lot going on in the first period. Straubing had the first high-caliber chance of the derby while short-handed, but Mathias Niederberger reacted brilliantly against JC Lipon (3rd). A short time later, the other side scored: Ortega put the German champions ahead with his powerplay goal (3rd). The Red Bulls continued to set the tone before the visitors got into the game better towards the middle of the third period. However, there was no change to Munich's 1:0 lead before the first break.
The fans also saw power ice hockey in the middle period - and a lightning start by the Red Bulls: After just 23 seconds, Eder surprised Tigers goalkeeper Hunter Miska on the stickhand side. 2:0 for coach Söderholm's team. The two-goal lead didn't last long, however, as Mark Zengerle reduced the deficit on the rebound (23rd). The Tigers then increased the pressure and were rewarded for it. Three seconds before the second break, Zengerle deflected in to make it 2:2.
The visitors took the momentum into the final period and turned the game on its head in the 48th minute: Joshua Samanski scored to make it 2:3 with the penalty shown. The Red Bulls then had good opportunities, but Miska was unable to get past them. When Söderholm brought on a sixth outfield player, Michael Connolly scored an empty-net goal to make it 2:4 (60').
