Gameplay
The duel was physical and even at first. After the Red Bulls increased the tempo, Joacim Eriksson became the focus of attention. The Schwenningen keeper prevented Chris DeSousa from taking the lead in Munich (7th). A little later, the leaders gave Johannes Huß too much space, who scored the 1:0 for the Wild Wings with a lot of overview (8.). Tylor Spink even had a chance for the second goal, but Mathias Niederberger made a strong save (10.). Don Jackson's team continued to control the game at the Olympia-Eisstadion, but there was no way through the compact and aggressive Schwenningen defense before the first period break.
The Wild Wings had one more player on the ice early in the middle period. Alexander Karachun had the 2:0 on his stick in the 23rd minute, but the Red Bulls survived this shorthanded period without any damage. Munich did it better 10 minutes later on the power play: Hager was right in front of the goal and evened the score with his 200th goal in the German Ice Hockey League. Both teams then had opportunities to take the lead, including a shot off the crossbar by Schwenningen's Florian Elias (37th).
Austin Ortega had the first top-class chance in the final period, but the Munich attacker was blocked at the last moment (43rd). The Red Bulls had more of the play, but also inaccuracies. Schwenningen, on the other hand, remained a stubborn opponent. The guests lurked for their chance and struck ice-cold in the 58th minute: Karachun's goal made it 2-1 in favor of the Wild Wings.
