Game play
The Red Bulls in the first game after Christmas Eve without heavy legs. Several times, the front-runners got stuck in the opponent's zone, but Markus Keller was not to be passed at first. The Panther goalkeeper was lucky with a goal against the post by Trevor Parkes (6.) and good saves, among others against Jonathon Blum (18.). Augsburg also had its offensive actions, but at the latest with Mathias Niederberger was the end of the line.
In the middle period, the Panthers were more forceful at first, but Munich was ice-cold: In a shorthanded period, Kastner saved a goal by Patrick Hager against the post to take the lead (25). The Red Bulls were then clearly superior and had numerous chances. Nicolas Appendino put a solo effort just wide of the goal after the penalty had expired (26th), before Redmond made it 2-0 after strong work by Konrad Abeltshauser (30th). Augsburg in this phase from the role, but as if out of nowhere with the connecting goal by Terry Broadhurst (34.). Ehliz almost restored the two-goal lead, but the crossbar was in the way (38.).
Just 32 seconds into the final period, the in-form attacker took a more accurate aim. With the 3:1, Ehliz also extended his personal point streak to nine games. The Red Bulls were then clever and concentrated, Augsburg was no longer dangerous in front of Niederberger's box. The decision in the 57th minute: Ortega put the lid on it with the 4:1.
