Gameplay
The Red Bulls concentrated from the start and were eager to play. A combination worth seeing led to the first home goal in 2023: Captain Hager netted after a double pass with Andreas Eder for 1:0 (5.). After that, the game continued in one direction - Bietigheim under pressure and subsequently conceding further goals. DeSousa completed an individual performance to make it 2:0 (8.), before Ehliz added the 3:0 just 60 seconds later. The Red Bulls kept up the pressure, but Steelers keeper Cody Brenner saved his team from a higher deficit at the first period break.
Mathias Niederberger was rarely challenged in the Munich box in the middle period. Brenner had much more to do and was lucky when Ehliz scored against the post (31st). After that, the Steelers became more courageous. A counterattack in the 34th minute led to the goal, Daniel Weiß was the scorer. The Red Bulls, however, had the perfect answer: DeSousa slammed the puck under the crossbar in overtime for 4:1 (38th).
The league leader early in the final period with another power play and the next goal. DeSousa gave Brenner no chance for the third time this evening (44th). A little later, Parkes was allowed to cheer: The forward converted a solo run and made it 6:1 with his 100th DEL goal for the Red Bulls (47th). Munich had further opportunities in the final minutes, but the score remained unchanged.
