Gameplay
Dominik Bokk gave Frankfurt a dream start with his goal after just 36 seconds. The promoted team drove from the lead, but Mathias Niederberger prevented the second goal - among other things with a brilliant save against Brett Breitkreuz (6.). Munich increasingly increased the tempo, the pressure on the Löwen's box increased. Just before the first intermission too much: DeSousa deflected unstoppable for Jake Hildebrand to the 1:1 (20.).
Both teams continued to play well in the middle period and with a lot of drive to the goal. The result were opportunities every minute, but the keeper continued to shine. A breathtaking ice hockey game. The first Munich lead through Austin Ortega was thwarted by Hildebrand (32nd), on the other side Bokk made it 2-1 for the Löwen (34th). The Red Bulls came back again shortly before the break - this time through Szuber, who made it 2:2 after a dream combination with Justin Schütz (39.).
In the final period, the guests went ahead: McKiernan put the leaders in front for the first time after just 14 seconds. Munich defended the lead offensively, the Löwen remained without a dangerous finish - until the final minutes. With the extra outfield player, Frankfurt put on the pressure, but the outstanding Niederberger held on for the 3:2 away win.
