Gameplay
The Red Bulls started with a lot of speed and were clearly superior at first. Vítkovice Ridera could hardly break free, but did not allow any big chance and survived the pressing phase without any damage. The first chance came when the Czechs got into the game better, but Andreas Eder just missed (10.). The hosts had their best chances during two powerplays. However, the German national goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger had no chance to get past him in the first 20 minutes.
Vítkovice got up to temperature faster after the change of ends. Dominik Lakatoš scored after 34 seconds to take the lead (21.), before Stuart Percy added the 2:0 shortly afterwards with an overtime hammer (22.). The Red Bulls had to cope with the double blow, but then showed a strong reaction and reduced the deficit through Kastner's tap-in (30.). In the final phase of the third, the equalizer was in the air, but Vítkovice's goalkeeper Lukáš Klimeš and the post stood in the way of the 2:2. The Czechs were lucky at first and then ice-cold: Rastislav Dej increased the lead to 3:1 in the power play (40th).
Coach Toni Söderholm's team pressed for the final goal in the last period, but Klimeš thwarted further opportunities. In the 50th minute, the goalie then had no chance as the Red Bulls played it strong in overtime. Parkes did everything right in the end - only 2:3 (50th). The pressure continued and in the 53rd minute the German champions were rewarded. Ortega scored in five-on-three to make it 3:3 - at the same time the result after 60 minutes.
In overtime, both teams played forward, but despite excellent opportunities, no goal was to be scored. The penalty shootout had to decide. Percy secured the extra point for the hosts with the 29th attempt.
