Course of the game
In the brisk opening phase, both teams played fast and straight forward. Then the Red Bulls took control and put Kosice under increasing pressure. The guests countered dangerously, but Mathias Niederberger was the last stop. In the eleventh minute, the Munich team sent its power play units onto the ice for the first time - and the bell promptly rang: Ortega put the score at 1:0 with a shot into the corner. The German champions then had numerous chances. Varejcka took advantage of one of them to make it 2:0 (18.).
In the middle period, too, it was initially only in the direction of Jaruslav Janus' goal. The Red Bulls had more chances, but the next goal was scored by Kosice's Jens Olsson on the power play (28th). The goal did not change the dominance of Munich. In the 34th minute, Janus was beaten a third time after a slap shot by Hager, who thus gave himself a present for his 35th birthday. The pressure continued and Krämmer ensured the 4:1 lead (39.) after two thirds with his first goal in a Munich jersey.
Kosice started the final period with a lot of pressure and scored Olsson's second powerplay goal (43rd). But the Red Bulls had the perfect answer again: Blum made it 5:2 with a hammer shot from the blue line (45th) - his fourth score of the evening. Subsequently, Janus prevented a higher deficit of the guests. So it remained the sovereign 5:2 victory of the Red Bulls.
