The story
The Red Bulls Salute was already held between 2005 and 2013 as an international invitational tournament for top European teams, and from 2010 it served as the final tournament of the European Trophy. In 2014, it gave way to the newly founded Champions League (CHL) and was resumed in 2017 after a four-year interruption. Since then, the format has been a permanent fixture in the ice hockey calendar.
