Bavarian weekend, part 2: Red Bulls host the Nürnberg Ice Tigers
Saturday, 19. October 2024 | PENNY DEL Preview: EHC Red Bull Munich welcomes the Nürnberg Ice Tigers
Bavarian weekend, part 2: Red Bulls host the Nürnberg Ice TigersTickets still available// DEL - PREVIEWLess than 48 hours after the derby against the Augsburger Panthers (2:4), it's back home. On Sunday at 7:15 pm, the Nürnberg Ice Tigers will be the guests (live on MagentaSport, on our blog & Sportdeutschland.TV).
In the second home game this weekend, points are a must against Nürnberg in order to stay in the top places with one game less than the competition ahead of us. The Ice Tigers recently won 6:2 at home in the derby against ERC Ingolstadt. The team from Central Franconia thus stopped their streak of five defeats in a row and at least climbed back up to 10th place in the table.

Still vulnerable defensively
Even the new Nürnberg head coach Mitch O'Keefe, who took over from Tom Rowe (who left for Frankfurt) in the summer and most recently worked at HC Innsbruck, has not yet got to grips with a problem from previous years. The team that finished tenth in the table in the previous season has also conceded too many goals in the first few weeks of this season. For example, they lost 9-0 against Bremerhaven and 6-2 in Berlin.
It has already struck 42 times behind the two goalkeepers Niklas Treutle and Leon Hungerecker. No other team in the league has scored more goals against them. The Ice Tigers have also been extremely susceptible when shorthanded, and are in joint last place in the PENNY DEL with Straubing with ten goals conceded.
Even the two new defensemen Owen Headrick (most recently Wilkes-Barre) and Cody Haiskanen (Idaho Steelheads) have not been able to change that. While the Canadian Headrick is more offensively oriented, the American Haiskanen is supposed to provide defensive stability.

Top line around McKenna, Graber and Barratt
The forward positions are also occupied by North Americans. And in Jeremy McKenna (Kansas City) and Will Graber (Ässät Pori), two hits have apparently been made. The two newcomers play together in the top formation and are a real threat. Evan Barratt completes the line-up; the 25-year-old is one of the best scorers in the league. Cole Maier and Charlie Gerard are also worth keeping an eye on.
In Samuel Dove-McFalls (Lausitzer Füchse) and Eugen Alanov (Löwen Frankfurt), two other new Ice Tigers have already made an offensive appearance. Thomas Heigl played in Munich last year. So it's a direct twin duel with his brother Nikolaus.
Last season, both teams won their home games by 5:3 and 2:1 respectively. This series in front of their own crowd should continue, at least on Sunday. Tickets for the game against Nuremberg and all home games until the end of the year can be found here.
