Ice hockey show with a special guest to kick things off
With the Red Bulls' Grand Opening Game against the Buffalo Sabres from the National Hockey League (NHL), the SAP Garden was finally officially opened on September 27, 1,719 days after construction began. In front of numerous personalities from politics and sport - including Joachim Herrmann (Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, for Sport and Integration), Dieter Reiter (Lord Mayor of the City of Munich), Germany's record international soccer player Lothar Matthäus and many more - both teams played sport at the highest level in front of 10,796 spectators. Also in attendance: our former player JJ Peterka, who made it all the way to the best professional league in the world from our own junior ranks and returned to his old home.
Although EHC Red Bull Munich were beaten 5-0 by the visitors at their new home ground, that was more of a side note on this evening. The new home in the Olympiapark showed off its impressive interior for the first time.
