// PLAYOFF-HIGHLIGHTS
Match report
In an evenly balanced opening period, Mannheim were the slightly more dangerous of the two teams. Mathias Niederberger in the München goal showed his class on several occasions, including with a brilliant save to keep out John Gilmour in the 8. minute. Shortly afterwards, the Red Bulls created their first big chance – and promptly scored: Hirose finished a fine move to make it 1-0 in the 11. minute. München then pushed for a second goal, but Arno Tiefensee was unbeatable. On the other side, Niederberger made way for Evan Fitzpatrick after 15 minutes. Not long after, Kristian Reichel gave the Canadian no chance (18.). The teams went in at the break all even at 1-1. The Red Bulls started the second period with plenty of momentum and Varejcka put them back in front in the 26. minute. The Adler then stepped up a gear, but it was precisely at this point that Rieder caught the visitors out with a breakaway goal to make it 3-1 to München (33.). Mannheim then increased the pace and created chances, but the four-time German champions held on to their two-goal lead going into the second break. In the final period, Eisenschmid made it 4-1 with his power-play goal in the 42. minute to give München a dream start. The Jackson team then controlled the game until the Adler reduced the deficit to 2:4 through Tobias Fohrler (47. minute). The game then became more heated, with both teams fighting hard. In the 56. minute, Kastner made the score 5:2 with his empty-net goal.
