On Monday evening, Kaltenhauser had surprisingly asked the sporting management of the four-time German champions to relieve him of all duties for the time being. This request was granted and communicated to the team on Tuesday morning.
Kaltenhauser thanks the organization, team and fans
Max Kaltenhauser: "In recent weeks and months, there have unfortunately been a number of stressful events in my personal life, including the death of my mother. All in all, this has meant that I am currently unable to muster the full energy that my position requires. As a manager, I see it as my duty to take this into consideration and am therefore standing down from my position. I would like to thank the entire organization, my team and the great fans and wish everyone all the best."
Kaltenhauser was hired as assistant coach in June last year. Around three months ago, the "DEL2 Coach of the Year 2024" then took over as head coach from Toni Söderholm. The family man previously coached the Eisbären Regensburg, with whom he became DEL2 champions in 2024.
Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey: "Max has asked for a break out of the deepest conviction. That's much better than simply carrying on just to fulfill expectations. We didn't hesitate for a second to comply with his surprising request to be relieved of his duties. In our organization, people always come first. Max will of course remain part of our family and will hopefully return in a mutually agreed position as soon as he sees fit. In sport, the wind often blows from unpredictable directions, but we will ensure that our sails are set correctly for the challenges ahead."
Information on the replacement will follow in due course
Kaltenhauser and EHC Red Bull München ask for your understanding that no further statements will be made on the situation of the Ebersberg native beyond this information. The club will inform about the filling of the vacant coaching position in due course.
The team will travel to Berlin on Thursday, where they will face the German champions Eisbären Berlin in the evening (January 23 | 7:30 pm).
