Course of the match
Both teams played with an open goal in the first period. Davos got off to the better start and took an early lead through Enzo Corvi, who gave Simon Wolf no chance on his debut in the Munich goal (4th). Shortly afterwards, the youngster made a great save against Matěj Stránský to prevent a bigger deficit. The Red Bulls then got into the game better and better. With a lot of enthusiasm, they went in the direction of HCD goalkeeper Luca Hollenstein, who saved numerous good chances in the first period - including from Tobias Rieder and DeSousa. A first period full of chances ended with a narrow Davos lead.
Munich were well in the game at the start of the middle period, but then found themselves short-handed twice. Adam Tambellini seized the big chance and increased the lead to 2:0 with a direct shot (25'). However, the Red Bulls were not impressed. Söderholm's team wanted a quick response and created several opportunities, all of which were thwarted by Hollenstein. As a result, they went into the second period with a two-goal deficit.
The Red Bulls kept up the pressure in the final period and worked on scoring the equalizer. In the 50th minute, the four-time German champions were rewarded for their efforts in the power play: Jonathon Blum set up DeSousa, who reduced the deficit to 1:2. Munich wanted more and pushed for the equalizer, but the result remained the same.
