Course of the game
Växjö started aggressively, but two Munich newcomers had the best chances in the opening period. However, Tobias Rieder outnumbered (5th) and Adam Brooks after a remarkable combination with Yasin Ehliz (10th) were unable to beat Lakers goalkeeper Emil Larmi. At the other end, the Red Bulls' defence worked hard to keep Växjö away from their own goal. As a result, the Swedes failed to create any top chances in the first period. Before the break, Sten Fischer and Max Daubner both missed the lead. So it remained 0:0 for the time being.
In the middle period, it only took 52 seconds for Lakers striker Hugo Gustafsson to score the first goal. Växjö continued to play at a high tempo, but the Red Bulls countered with great endeavour. An intense and heated duel developed in which the Munich team created good chances to equalise. Ehliz (23‘) and Ben Smith (35’), among others, found themselves free in front of the Swedish goal, but Larmi kept his goal clean in the second period.
The Lakers were ice-cold in the final period. The result was further goals by Martin Lundberg (43) and Dennis Rasmussen (45), who increased the score to 0:3 with their double strike. The Red Bulls then tried everything, but Växjö defended with great concentration. In the 55th minute, Victor Stjernborg scored under pressure to make it 4-0.
