Back on the ice: Oswald & Co. work hard at the U23 camp in the academy

Back on the ice: Oswald & Co. work hard at the U23 camp in the academy// NEWS It's already a tradition: the U23 camp at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy. Once again this year, young professionals and talents took advantage of the fantastic conditions - including five Munich players and our assistant coach Max Kaltenhauser.
"Ice hockey players are made in the summer," is a well-known saying. This means that only those who work hard in the off-season can reap the rewards of their work during the season. That's why the Red Bulls once again organized a camp for talented players from the Munich and Salzburg organizations this summer. Youngsters from our cooperation partner ESV Kaufbeuren also took part.
From Wednesday to Sunday last week, numerous players sweated it out at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy on the Austrian-Bavarian border in Liefering. Among them were goalkeepers Daniel Allavena and Christopher Kolarz, defender Sten Fischer and forwards Veit Oswald and Quirin Bader from EHC Red Bull München.

Kaltenhauser: "Forecheck a huge topic in Munich"
Our new assistant coach Kaltenhauser attended the U23 camp for the first time. "It's about getting to know the wider group of players in the organization and exchanging ideas with the coaches. Tactical framework concepts are also discussed, such as the forecheck, which is an important topic for us in Munich," explains the 43-year-old. At the same time, Kaltenhauser raves about the excellent conditions on site: "We have absolutely perfect conditions at the academy. We want for nothing."
Bader: "It was very exhausting"
The training kicked off on Wednesday with a relaxed session. Two training sessions were on the agenda on each of the following days. "The focus was on the basics such as forecheck, passing and tackling," reports Fischer.
The intensity was continuously increased. "It was very exhausting," says Bader. But he and his team-mates are happy to work hard. If you want to get better, you have to invest.

Oswald: "Must become stronger"
Oswald, who celebrated his breakthrough last season, knows this too. The 19-year-old forward was the high-flyer of the 2023/24 season. The reward: he was voted Junior of the Year in the German Ice Hockey League. He doesn't want to rest on his laurels. Quite the opposite.
"I have to get stronger and defend the ice better in duels," says the youngster. Every session helps. That's another reason why the camp is so important.
Individual training for the goalkeepers
"The players should learn what is important. The focus is on the individual," says Kaltenhauser. Speaking of individual training: this is nothing new for the goalkeepers. Allavena and Kolarz also received special training in Liefering.
This week will be really specific, as Allavena reports: "We have Monday and Tuesday off. Then from Wednesday to Sunday we'll go back to Liefering for the goalkeeper camp."
