Course of the game
An atmospheric SAP Garden, spirited Red Bulls, dangerous visitors - the Upper Bavarian derby left little to be desired right from the start. Both teams created a number of good chances, especially when they were in powerplay. But Munich's Mathias Niederberger and Ingolstadt's Devin Williams both kept a clean sheet. Until the 18th minute, when Alex Breton gave the Panthers a 1:0 lead at the break with four on four.
The middle period was initially characterized by combative ice hockey with many interruptions. Both goalies were again given the opportunity to distinguish themselves. Over the course of the third period, however, Munich created more and better chances than their opponents. They were therefore delighted to equalize in the 30th minute. Lancaster placed the puck in the corner of Ingolstadt's goal. And if that wasn't enough, six minutes later a double strike caused the SAP Garden to shake: First DeSousa gave the Red Bulls the lead, 14 seconds after that Weber even made it 3:1. This was the score going into the second break.
In the final period, the Panthers struggled to score the equalizer. Munich defended with full commitment, did not allow any clear opportunities and repeatedly made pinpricks in offense. One of these pinpricks led to the decisive goal in the 55th minute, when Kastner scored to make it 4:1 after a beautiful interplay with Andreas Eder. Ehliz then scored the final goal to make it 5:1 (59') and the sold-out SAP Garden celebrated EHC Red Bull Munich's third home win.
