The Red Bulls put on the pressure from the start, Bremerhaven could hardly break free at first. Maximilian Franzreb had to make several saves for the Penguins. He was helped by the crossbar against Jonathon Blum (14th minute). Munich had the clearer opportunities, but towards the end of the period the hosts also made dangerous pinpricks. However, there was no goal in the first period.
Now finally goals - with this attitude both teams came out of the dressing room. The first goal was scored by Bremerhaven: Phillip Bruggisser's one-timer during a double overtime (24th). Another goal by the Penguins was prevented shortly after by Munich goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger with a great save against Jan Urbas. The Bremerhaveners now had the wind at their back. But the main round winner with the answer: Ehliz equalized in the 30th minute. In the following the Red Bulls were oppressively superior, but it remained at 1:1 at the second intermission.
The Munich team started offensively in the final period. Bremerhaven held courageously against it. Both goalkeepers were again and again in the center. And then the lead for Red Bull Munich on the power play. The disc ran fast and DeSousa crowned the combination with the 2:1 (52.). The curtain rose on a hotly contested final phase: Don Jackson's team was looking for the final decision, the Penguins were fighting against elimination in the quarterfinals. In minute 58, Bremerhaven's goalie went off the ice, but the Red Bulls brought home the lead and the victory.
