Game play
After an even opening period, the Red Bulls increased the pace. Andreas Eder had the first top chance in Munich with a penalty, but the puck just missed the post (8.). Three minutes later, McKiernan was on target to give the leaders a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Ehliz increased the lead to 2:0 after a fine individual performance (14.). The game continued to be lively. An overtime goal by Ryan Kuffner gave Augsburg hope (17), but just 21 seconds later the Red Bulls were successful again: Abeltshauser's goal to make it 3:1 (17) put the finishing touches to an exciting first period.
Munich continued to set the tone in the middle period - and was again ice-cold: Schütz made it 4:1 with a precise finish (23rd). Don Jackson's team controlled the derby. Offensive actions of the Panthers, such as the goal by Thomas Jordan Trevelyan (28.), were the absolute exception. On the other hand, AEV keeper Dennis Endras was repeatedly challenged by the Red Bulls. In the 39th minute he was beaten for the fifth time. The goal scorer was DeSousa.
Augsburg tried everything again in the final period, but Mathias Niederberger in the Munich box still hardly got any shots on goal. In the 49th minute, the keeper was then allowed to distinguish himself with a brilliant save against Kuffner. The Red Bulls, however, continued to be the clearly better team and were successful again shortly before the end of the game: Ortega completed the half dozen with the 6:1 (60.).
