Course of the game
The Red Bulls went into forward gear right from the start, but Düsseldorf repeatedly made pinpricks. Mathias Niederberger in the Munich goal was challenged early on - including in the second minute against Bennet Roßmy. At the other end, Adam Almquist appeared free in front of the DEG box, but Henrik Haukeland saved this and the Red Bulls' other shots in the first period. This ended 20 evenly balanced minutes without a goal.
It was a similar picture in the middle period: Toni Söderholm's team had more of the play, while DEG waited for counter-attacks. Then the visitors conceded a penalty - and the Red Bulls took advantage: DeSousa crowned a spectacular solo run with the 1:0 (25.). The game remained open as both teams had good chances. However, no further goal was scored in the second period.
DEG increased the risk in the final period, but Niederberger was initially unstoppable - until Moritz Wirth took advantage of a screen in the 49th minute and scored the equalizer. Shortly afterwards, the post prevented the visitors from scoring twice (51'). The Red Bulls then shifted up a gear again and it paid off: Dominik Bittner put the puck on goal shortly before the end in his 500th DEL game and Street deflected in to give Munich a 2-1 win (60').
