Promotion and relegation rule remains in place until 2030 - adjustments to the awarding of licencesExtension and modification of the existing contract// DEL - NEWSThe PENNY DEL announced on Wednesday that the promotion and relegation rules will remain in place until at least 2030. In addition, adjustments have been made to the allocation of licences.
In a corresponding announcement, the DEL states that various aspects have been revised in order to optimize the conditions for the promoted and relegated teams. The main component of the negotiations was the infrastructure required for participation in the PENNY DEL and DEL 2.
No minimum capacity required - stadium index raised overall
There is no minimum capacity requirement for arenas. This should allow clubs to focus more on infrastructural adjustments within the stadium. The stadium index required for promotion has been redefined and the minimum score raised to 9,500 points. This index results from points that can be collected by fulfilling stadium requirements.

At the same time, the value of VIP seats, for example, has been increased. Subject to certain structural requirements, VIP areas or extensions built outside the arena are also recognized. The remaining points allocation remains the same as in the existing contract.
Jürgen Arnold: "Many ice hockey fans want promotion and relegation"
Jürgen Arnold, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PENNY DEL: "We are very pleased that we can continue our good cooperation by extending the contract until at least 2030. Many German ice hockey fans wanted to see promotion and relegation retained. By adjusting the stadium index, significantly more DEL2 locations will have the opportunity to meet the requirements for promotion in the future. On the one hand, this takes into account the positive development of the clubs in DEL2 and, at the same time, provides our clubs in the PENNY DEL with greater planning security. This is good news for German ice hockey."
